LIFE TraiN2K: Training and Coaching for Natura 2000 Site Management

The LIFE TraiN2K project aims to improve the management of the Natura 2000 network and the restoration of natural habitats through the development and implementation of a European vocational training system. The objective is to train new specialised figures – Natura 2000 Coaches, Eco-Restorers and Natura 2000 Rangers – capable of enhancing the effectiveness, consistency and quality of conservation in Natura 2000 sites across Europe.

Main activities

• Creation of training programmes for three professional profiles central to the management and conservation of Natura 2000 sites.
• Establishment of a European Natura 2000 Training Institute, based in Sabaudia (Latina, Italy), managed by the Carabinieri.
• Development of an online platform for sharing training modules, best practices, case studies and stakeholder support.
• Launch of an international second-level Master’s degree in “Natura 2000 Expert”.
• Official certification of new Natura 2000 professionals and promotion of their recognition at European level.
• Structuring of interdisciplinary programmes (technical management, ecological restoration, legal and administrative aspects, soft skills).
• Promotion of collaboration between the actors involved (public bodies, law enforcement agencies, site managers, academia, landowners, environmental authorities).

Training will be offered through face-to-face, online and field modules, with a pan-European approach that values ecological and institutional diversity and promotes a strong sense of belonging among Natura 2000 site managers.
